La description :
GM A-bodies might just be the quintessential muscle car of all time. That platform led to vehicles like the Chevelle Malibu SS, Oldsmobile 442, Buick GS, and what many call the first popular muscle car…the Pontiac GTO. GM had a corporate policy limiting the V8 engine size in these muscle cars to 330 cubic inches, but Pontiac found a loophole by making the GTO a low volume option. The sales were so impressive for the ’64 GTO that the following year GM increased the engine size limitations to 400 cubic inches to allow each brand to start producing similar models.
The beneficiary of a nearly six year body-off restoration, This numbers matching 1967 Pontiac GTO features an original 400 cubic inch block and a very unique color scheme thanks to a Cameo Ivory with a black vinyl top combined with a vibrant red vinyl interior. This GTO has so much going for it, but before we get too far into this unique GTO, lets first decode the VIN and fender tag:
VIN: 242177P118876

• 42: GTO
• 17: 2-door hardtop
• 7: 1967 GTO

• 10A: Built 1st week of October 1966
• 67: Model year

• PON: Pontiac, MI assembly plant
• 3092: Production number

• C-2: Cameo Ivory with black vinyl top
The iconic look of the GTO is beautifully preserved in this ’67 version. Covered in a correct coat of Cameo Ivory with a black vinyl top, the GTO is absolutely stunning. It starts at the front of the body where the chrome front bumper and headlight casing has been painstakingly buffed to shine extremely bright today. Behind the front bumper a split grill contains the blinker lights and GTO badging. At the base of the hood the vintage Pontiac logo sits below a moderate hood scoop to give the front end a very aggressive look. Through the soft glass windows you can see how the red vinyl interior accents the body very nicely. Down the sides of the body a red pinstripe gives the GTO a very classy look and is a great way to play off the look of the interior. At the back you’ll find the split quad brake lights that sit above another beautiful chrome bumper that hangs just above the dual exhausts.
As previously stated, the GTO was the first GM intermediate to get a big cubic inch engine, and this ‘67 sports its original 400 cubic inch V8. Topped by a correct 4-barrel carburetor under a chrome plated air cleaner, This WT coded block was rated at 335 horsepower, more than enough to deliver sparkling performance and effortless high-speed cruising. It wears a correct 9786133 casting number and a J2866 casting date. Today it’s producing a bit more than 335hp thanks to a fresh rebuild and a new hydraulic flat tappet Ram Air cam. Chrome valve covers match the air cleaner and add a little sparkle under the hood. Detailing is exact throughout, and it’s obvious that someone spent a lot of time and money sweating the details. All the tags, emblems, stickers, and markings are correct. Painted in Pontiac light blue, the engine looks immaculate in the black engine bay.
Put the GTO on a lift and you’ll see that bolted to the original block is a period correct Muncie 4-speed manual transmission that sends power to a 10-bolt that wears a correct 9783393 casting number. Spent gasses travel down dual exhausts that exit out just below the rear bumper. The previous owner also installed red protectors in the wheel wells to keep rocks and debris from scratching and nicking the frame. Power front disc brakes can be found in the front while in the rear drum brakes are responsible for slowing the vehicle. In front of those brakes are a set of 14” Rally I wheels that have been wrapped in Firestone Redline bias ply rubber.
Accenting the gorgeous white exterior is a correctly coded 225 red vinyl interior that is in stunningly superb shape. Open this coupe’s freshly finished doors and you’ll find a fully restored, red vinyl interior that’s simple, yet sporty. Front and center is firm bucket and bench seats which feature bright chrome trim, cool pleated covers and era-correct lap belts. The engine’s vitals are displayed by a rebuilt gauge cluster that sits within the woodgrain dash. On the floors, like-new carpet anchors a chrome shifter inside a stainless-trimmed console and red, Pontiac-branded floor mats. Fresh, red door panels feature new chrome handles and fresh stainless trim that parallels bright red GTO crests. In front of the driver, a chrome-trimmed steering wheel spins a classy horn ring around a turquoise, Pontiac-branded horn button. And behind the passengers, a spotless trunk sandwiches a correct jack and a full-size spare tire between a new mat and a correct decklid decal.
This sale of this completely restored numbers matching GTO includes documentation from Pontiac Historical Services, AMA specifications, restoration photos, press release from Pontiac about the 1967 lineup, copy of registrations that date back to 1976, a ton of receipts from the extensive restoration, and the original owner’s manual.
It’s extremely hard not to instantly fall in love with a genuine muscle car like this ’67 Pontiac GTO. Its collectability is ensured thanks to the build team retaining the original numbers matching block, and it’s extremely unique with the white exterior combined with the red interior. The extensive restoration produced an incredible product. Don’t miss your chance to own the GTO of your dreams.
